Auto-immune diseases affect so many. How can you take charge of your health?

Nearly EVERY patient I have seen is affected by an auto-immune disease, either personally or has a family member or friend who suffers. Some claim it is increasing in its diagnosis or increasing in its manifestations, some say it’s genetics, but the reality is it’s clearly a topic worth discussing and providing help for and we need to look deeper at the cause.

Did you know:

1 in 2.5 children has an allergy
1 in 6 children has a developmental disability
1 in 9 children has attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
1 in 11 children has asthma
1 in 13 children has severe food allergies
1 in 36 children has autism

Research has shown cleaning, healing and restoring the gut is an important way to improve and eliminate symptoms. Since I am constantly learning, reading and educating myself for the sake of helping my patients, I thought I’d share a few things I’ve come across recently and advise you to speak with your physicians and family to see if these things could be of help to you.

  1. Dr. Thomas Cowan MD wrote “Vaccines, Autoimmunity, and the Changing Nature of Childhood Illness“. In it, he describes a way of eating called the GAPS diet, one that helps those with auto-immune diseases. The basic gist is to eliminate grains, beans and other starchy foods such as potatoes.  These foods do not completely digest and remain in the gastrointestinal tract, which then feed yeast and other pathogens/bacteria that normally reside in much smaller numbers within the intestines.  By eliminating these foods, the gut is no longer irritated and compromised in functionality. irritating lining of the walls. Replacing with healthy foods and fats enriches the intestinal wall and restores the gut.
  2. Dr. Cowan also suggests taking a Low Dose Naltrexone. You can visit to find a list of pharmacies and practitioners who can prescribe it. Research has shown a lose dose to increase endorphin levels in the blood, improve immune function, lower anitbody levels, and even putting a variety of autoimmune diseases into remission.
  3. Dr. Zach Bush and his research team has found a soil-derived supplement which has shown to reduce leakage of the gut wall.  The supplement lowers Zonulin concentrations, a protein that essentially “tells pores in the gut wall to open”.  Dr. Bush says that toxins such as vaccines, has increased levels of Zonulin, which in return gives people “leaky gut” or the inability to keep that gut wall closed. The supplement called Restore, has shown to seal up that “wall” and give those with auto-immune diseases relief, improvement and remission.
  4. Chiropractic care is for everyone but I especially urge those with auto-immune issues to make regular chiropractic care a priority. Those with auto-immune diseases are living in “over-drive”…meaning the body is working double-time. Chiropractic adjustments remove the interference (stress) off the nervous system, which then allows all the systems in the body to function at its highest level possible.

As always, I look forward to keeping the dialog open and doing my research to provide you all with valuable information about your health. Comment or send us a message to let us know what you think!

After we found ourselves in the ER for the sixth time for croup, I knew we needed to find something else for my boys. I feel chiropractic care was vital in the healing process. Since we started seeing Dr. Harrison, I have seen a significant improvement in his health and he no longer gets croup!

Dr. Harrison is absolutely amazing! We’ve seen such a difference in our daughter’s mobility since coming in. She's also had less drainage and ear infections…can’t recommend him enough!

I began seeing Dr. Harrison several years ago. I was scheduled to fly to Italy and was in bad shape. I could not have flown that long flight without his help. Since then, I go for monthly visits to stay healthy. I really appreciate his care.
